Sobriquet 77.4: In Which Sobriquet Hits the Airwaves

 I'm excited to announce that, starting next Tuesday, I will be hosting a punk rock radio show on KPVL 89.1: The Blend. The show is set to air on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 (Central Time). For those of you living outside the station's area of coverage, you can tune in via KPVL's free online stream.

In preparation for my first show, I have selected a pool of 114 songs by 114 different bands from which I intend to build a playlist. In some cases, I picked the band's most famous song (the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the U.K., for instance). In others, I picked a personal favorite over more obvious choices (the Ramones' "Slug" appears in my pool rather than the considerably more famous "Blitzkrieg Bop" or "I Wanna Be Sedated"). In still other cases, I chose to replace songs I really like (American Steel's "Dead and Gone") with tracks I'm not as fond of ("Sons of Avarice") because I don't want to upset the FCC by playing something with the word "fuck" in it before 10 PM. (While there is always the possibility of editing the offending language out of a broadcast, I would prefer not to censor a band's material). Still, it is my hope that, despite the limitations involved in arranging any such project, the pool represents a reasonably broad selection of what the scene has had to offer over the past thirty-plus years.
